About this session
This session introduces the Three Creative Archetypes at the heart of all creativity:
The Sage — the seeker of wisdom, meaning and structure
The Explorer — the discoverer of novelty, experience and possibility
The Trickster — the challenger of assumptions, conventions and certainty
Together, these archetypes form the three essential forces behind original thinking.
Crucially, it's not a matter of choosing only one. You need to channel all three if you are to think creatively.
During the session, you will:
Discover the strengths and blind spots of each archetype
Explore how valuable, novel and counterintuitive ideas emerge
Learn three practical creative “seed types” linked to the archetypes: Significa, Capta, and Magica
Take part in guided exercises and live examples
Whether you are blocked, curious, creatively ambitious, or simply interested in how ideas happen, this session offers a fresh way of understanding creativity—and yourself.
Free to attend. Registration required.
What are the Kermanu Sessions?
The Kermanu Sessions are free live online explorations into the hidden "DNA" of creativity.
They are run by Dr. Michael Bloomfield, a PhD anthropologist and founder of the Kermanu creativity system.
Each session focuses on a different part of the Kermanu system: the archetypes behind original thinking, the ways ideas begin, and the methods by which ideas combine and transform.
Part workshop, part philosophical exploration, part practical toolkit, the sessions are designed for creatives and aspiring creatives alike—writers, artists, entrepreneurs, academics, designers, founders, problem-solvers, and curious minds.
You do not need any prior knowledge of Kermanu to join.
There are currently three sessions that rotate over three months. Come to a single session, or explore them all.
Each offers a different doorway into a larger creative system.
What people are saying
"Michael’s model of the creative person that we played with—the Sage, the Explorer and the Trickster—not only resonated with us all on the day but is something the team referred back to for weeks afterwards. It’s going to be part of my directorial toolkit from now on."
Steve Ingram, Director—Deloitte
"Genuinely insightful. I have always considered myself highly creative, but providing structure to some of my seemingly disjointed creative activities was super helpful. Thank you."
— Sebastian
"Fantastic session. I arrived a little late around 30 minutes after the start but I loved the energy of the session, that there was genuinely new and exciting information I haven't heard about before, at least not in the way that it was set out, and left me wanting to know more."
— Muna
"It was so energizing to be at an event and seeing the ideas and thinking of other highly creative people—in real time. Working in the corporate world this was eye opening and a WOW experience."
— Charles
"Thank you for the very nice session with the design group. It was an amazingly inspirational session!"
Pieter Van den Bergh, Design Director Innovation—Procter & Gamble
"Very, very enlightening."
— Gaby
"This was a very informative and foundational workshop. It created curiosity and willingness to dive deeper into expanding my creativity."
— Elena
There were some techniques I was already using—but the new ones really opened my mind. The "seeds" approach was something I found highly useful. Also, the exercises really helped understand the concepts. As advertising people we are already given a problem or challenge to begin with—breaking away from that formula and doing some blue sky thinking was a new start point.
— ANON
"A great blend of practise and theory - usually you get one or the other!"
— Jodie
“Michael has an infectious passion for creativity. His knowledge and understanding of idea formation, creative techniques and his hands-on advice made for a fun and inspiring session.”
Jonny Coller, Creative Director, South Shore TV
"Plenty of practical application, linked to theory, without a lot of 'sales' talk (having done these things myself, it's challenging to strike the right balance)!"
— ANON
"Michael was an engaging and knowledgeable presenter who facilitated a series of imaginative and useful activities to help us see and experience the creative power we have at our fingertips."
— Kim
"It was a very enjoyable surprise. Loved Michael's insightful knowledge and made me reflect about the need to have a creative coach."
— Maria
